The Deree Debating Club is Greece's oldest University Debating Club, founded in 1987, as well as being the oldest and one of the most active clubs of the American College of Greece. The main purpose of the club is to teach and engage students in the art of rhetoric; the type of rhetoric practiced is British parliamentary debating. Although debating appears intimidating to many people at first, practicing your debating skills can help you surpass stage fright, indulge in effective listening, actively attain responsible knowledge, sharpen your critical skills, maintain a viewpoint for every subject, and learn how to argue persuasively. Every year there are many international debating tournaments, such as the World University Debating Championship (WUDC), the European University Debating Championship (EUDC), the Amsterdam Open, the Cambridge Open, etc.
The Debating Club meets every Friday at 18:00 on the Aghia Paraskevi campus in room 701 for one or two debates. Join Us! |
