Athens Open Participation Award
For this academic year an additional award will be granted to the winners of the XLVI and XLVII invitationals. As we are planning on hosting an Athens Open we feel that it would be a great opportunity for qualified high school students to compete at a university level. It would offer them further debating experience, would look great on their CV’s, and will give them an idea of what debating is like at a collegiate level. We are therefore providing the winners of the two invitationals with the option of participating in the Athens Open 2014 for free. Other high school students will not be allowed to participate in the tournament.

Rules: Should the same team win both tournaments the next best team will be granted the award during the second invitational. University students winners will not be considered, and the award will go to the next best team. However, should a winning team be comprised of a mixed high school/non-high school partnership the team will be considered as is. Should the same person be found twice in a winning team but with different partners, the partner left out will be able to pick a qualified (approved by the DDC) speaker of his choice. If the partner found in said situation is a university level student, he will not be able eligible for the award.
Keep in mind that Deree will not allow significantly more qualified university speakers to break during invitationals. We therefore judged mixed teams to be a fair candidate for the award. |
